Where are we Headed?

In the future there will be many changes. One tremendous change will be the invention of new ways to travel. I believe that in the future the invention of different cars, trains, airplanes, subways, and more will be more efficient when it comes to traveling. The cars will become faster and safer for quick and easy transport from nearby locations. Trains and subways will also be easier and faster to access and will be used more frequently to save money and energy from all the cars. Also airplanes will be more cautious about who boards for safer flight. There will also be faster checkouts for the airports and the airports will keep your luggage safer and secure.

I believe that there will be more solar powered technology to conserve more energy and save the earth. Global warming will not be much of an issue as it is today. We will have many more gas conserving and solar powered vehicles.  All our buildings will feature energy-efficient design, construction, and materials as well as renewable energy technologies. In effect, each building will both conserve energy and produce its own supply, to be one of a new generation of cost-effective “zero-energy buildings” that have no net annual need for nonrenewable energy. So every building will be very energy efficient and will have renewable energy

The financial crisis started in 2007 and has progressively gotten worse over the years. The main cause of the financial crises was the bursting of the United States housing bubble. The housing bubble is an economic bubble that affects several parts of the United States housing market. In 2005 the houses prices peaked, but began to decline in 2006 and it is still not sure if it has completely hit rock bottom. In 2006-2007 foreclosure rates among homeowners increased. By September of 2008, the average U.S. housing prices declined nearly 20 percent from 2006 when it was at its peak. The ongoing foreclosure epidemic that began in late 2006 in the U.S. continues to drain wealth from consumers to this day. During the economic crises, several companies failed to stay in business, such as Mervyns, Circuit City , and Linens and Things. The crisis has also severely affected the automotive industry the past three years. In the United States , the crisis was mainly due to the company bailouts of General Motors and Chrysler. Car sales declined greatly in the United States , which affected US and European based car manufacturers. With oil prices rising during this time period, less people resorted to buying big vehicles that used a lot of gasoline. Instead, Americans were buying smaller, more efficient vehicles.

Is MySpace and FaceBook bad?

May 28, 2010 by

With networks such as myspace and facebook, people are spending countless hours daily online. Social networking can be a very valuable resource to people so they can stay in touch with people in their past. It provides a way to communicate with just about anyone around the world. With social networking become such a big part of everyone’s daily lives it makes think of one question: Is social networking a positive thing or just a distraction? There are several ways to answer this question and you can make the argument that it is simply an opinion. If you do not have a telephone, then social networking can be the best way to communicate with others. Sending a message via social networking is a way to have a conversation without being fully committed to it, such as text messaging. If you are in an area where it would cost money to make a call or send a text due to long distance charges, then facebook is a way to send a message free of charge. Same thing goes if you are across the world, you can keep in contact with all your friends and family back home. In 2009, an estimated 150 million people had a facebook account and half of them visit the site daily. That means about 75 million people check their facebook every single day! Facebook is used in 170 country’s and more than 35 different languages. Only 45% of facebook users are 26 or older. That means the remaining 55%  are 25 and younger which means the majority of those people are still students in college or high school. As a result, social networking could be a big distraction in students lives. I know personally, social networking can be a huge distraction. If I am on the computer doing my schoolwork, it can be tempting to pull up my facebook page and see what people have posted. Then once you do fall in to the temtation, it can be hard to exit out of the site and go back to doing what you should be. Social networking can also be a distraction when I am trying to sleep. With smart phones, facebook will send you notifications regarding messages, friend requests, and other alerts. These notifications will make my phone go off at all hours of the night when I am trying to sleep and it can be rather annoying. To solve the problem, I could turn off my phone at night, but I want people to be able to contact me at all times in case of an emergency.

Crazy Little Baseball Fan

May 28, 2010 by

At a baseball game in philidalphia, a 17 year old fan decided to run on to the field during play. The Phillies players were on the field when the fan was on the field and safety was a concern. The fan was waving a white towel and eluding security in his direction. After a short period of time, security decided to taser the boy to the ground. When fans usually run on to the field, security will tackle the person rather than use tasers or any other sort of weapon. This caused a huge controversy around the United States and was the headline on all sports talk shows. People shared all different opinions regarding the incident about whether or not the taser was necessary.  Every year people die from taser related incidents and it was possible that this fan could have been severely injured. The fan did not appear to be a threat to the players, as he was not reaching for anything out of his pockets that could have seemed harmful. I think that the taser was not necessary in this incident. The fan was just waving a towel and did not approach any of the players on the field. The one question everyone is saying is, what would have happened if this fan went in to shock and died? It was unlikely that the fan could have went in to shock and died, but still possible. Had the fan died, it would have caused a lot of commotion nationwide. Before the fan was tasered to the ground, there were several security personal around the fan. Eventually security would have been able to tackle the fan to the ground and put him in to custody. I was at a ball game once when a fan decided to run on to the playing field and security did not resort to a taser to stop the fan. It is not uncommon to see fans run on to the playing field, but it is uncommon to see them be tased to the ground. I think had the fan started to seem like a serious threat to the players, a taser should have been used. Even if the fan started to reach in to his pockets the taser should have been used. In this case, it just did not seem like the appropriate thing to do. In future incidents, fans should not be tased unless they are a serious threat to the people around them. A taser is far to dangerous of a weapon to be using for something like a 17 year old kid running on to the playing field of a baseball game.

Best Time of Year For Seni0rs!

May 28, 2010 by

Prom is one of the most important events for high school seniors. With graduation right around the corner, everyone’s lives are about to change forever. Some of the students will keep in touch and others will never see each other again. May is usually the time where the biggest event of the school year occurs, I am talking about prom of course. Senior Prom is the event that students look forward to starting in the fall. Throughout the year guys will contemplate who they want to ask to the prom and when the time comes, it can be rather exciting. Some guys will think of creative ways to ask their soon to be date and the planning can be a long process. When it comes to prom, finding a date is the first of several steps you have to do before the big night. For most proms, the students will go in groups to the dance anywhere from 10 to 80 people. The first necessity that students face is what type of transportation they will use to get to the dance. The traditional way is to rent a limo, but others prefer a party bus for larger groups. Transportation can cost hundreds of dollars depending on the size of the limo or bus. Planing an outfit for the prom can take several hours and cost hundreds of dollars. The guys always rent a tuxedo which is supposed to match their dates dress color wise. Girls will look online for dresses or go shopping at a dress store. The traditional dress will usually cost as much as a tuxedo, if not more. Along with transportation and clothing, finding a place to eat for dinner is another necessity for prom night. Some students will choose to go the cheaper way and cook dinner at home for the group. Others will choose to make reservations at a fancy restaurant. Seniors are more likely to go out to restaurants because it is there last prom together. Dinner is the final event that leads up to the big dance. The actual dance itself will last a couple of hours. Music is playing throughout the night and the students will dance on the dance floor. Drinks will be served throughout the night along with food. The typical music will beat upbeat hip-hop, but slow songs will be played occasionally. The prom will always be held at a fancy location, such as a nice hotel. Some schools will hold their prom on a boat in a big city like San Francisco. Prom is the biggest event of the school year by far. It is a time specifically to spend together with your classmates one last time before the end of the year. For seniors, it is the last time they will get to hang out with some of their friends, especially if you are moving away in the summer. Students will take away a lot of memories for the prom that they will remember for a long time.

Going going..Back back..To Philly Philly

December 4, 2009 by

Iverson was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 draft. Iverson is returning to the franchise where he was an MVP, calling it an opportunity he couldn’t turn down. The 10-time All-Star guard signed a non-guaranteed deal with the 76ers on Wednesday, and said at the Wachovia Center that he’s ready to prove he can still play. Iverson told the press that he wanted to retire at Philly. AI is 34 years old. He was an MVP is 2001 and led the 76ers to the finals. Where they fell short against the L.A. Lakers. In 10 seasons with the Sixers, Iverson posted the highest scoring average in team history 28.1, was second on the points list 19,583 and holds the record for 3-pointers 877. He was a seven-time All-Star with the team, won four scoring titles and two All-Star game MVPs. Iverson told president Ed Stefanski that he dreamed of returing to the 76ers before retiring. Iverson apologized on his past behavior and said that he acted a lot on anger. Stefanski said he didn’t promise Iverson would start, but added he didn’t bring him back to Philadelphia to serve as a role player. Iversons first game back scored 11 points grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 6 assist. It was Iversons debut against Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets. The nuggest spoiled Iversons return when they beat the 76ers. Iverson quoted that he doesnt care that he hasnt won a championship and at this point of his career he just wants to be where he is happy. Iverson is happy in philly where he first started his career.

Iverson has not been doing great in philly. He has been struggling with his career. AI is now done for the season because he needs to tend for his sick daughter. His daughter is sick with a deadly virus. AI was struggling from the field before he announced that he was done for the season. He was starting as a point guard because Lou Williams was injured with a fractured jaw. When AI said he was done for the season Lou Williams was back and took his spot. AI is now taking care of his daughter. Best regards to AI and his daughter.

U.S. vs. England

December 4, 2009 by

The biggest and most anticipated sporting event in the world is right around the corner. Today the entire world waited in anticipation of who their team was going to play in the 2010 world cup. Hundreds of thousands of soccer fans wait every four years for the world cup and today we finally saw the draw that starts it all. The United States will face England in what should be a very intense game. In the United States, soccer is probably the least popular sport. However, when the world cup comes along, everyone watches attentively. I know myself that I never watch Major League Soccer, the soccer league in the United States, but whenever team USA is on, I watch and care just as much as I do for any other sports. The world is not the place that we hope it wold be with all the wars, poverty, and problems, but every four years, the world comes together to watch the World Cup. It is like the world stops and for a month, everyone has something to talk about that isn’t about the war or something negative. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Not baseball, not football, not basketball, it is soccer. Here in the United States, we think that soccer sucks and no one scores and it is so boring. I do not seem to understand why we think that as a country, but we do. The United States has never won a world cup. Their best finish was third back in 1930. It could be that the reason why Americans do not like soccer at all is because we are not successful at it at all. We have the best baseball program in the world, we seem to always win the gold in basketball during the olympics and we have the best football players in the world. But Americans are not very good at soccer, never really have been. I do not really have an explanation for why this is and I am not sure anyone does. In fact, I can not name more than three players on the United States roster. Now I am not saying that the United States is horrible at soccer and no one cares about it, but compared to the rest of the world, we just do not compare. Going in to this world cup though, the United States has some reason to believe. In the Confederations cup this past year, the United States beat the number one ranked team in the world, Spain. The United States made it all the way to the finals but came up short to Brazil despite a two nothing lead at halftime. This world cup may be different for the United States, they have given Americans more reason to believe then they ever have. If the United States finds a way to go really deep in to next years world cup, soccer may become something. Just imagine if the United States won the biggest sporting event in the world. Soccer just might become popular like it is every where else in the world. Now am I saying that it would become as popular as baseball or football? Probably not, but it would create an impact bigger than anything else. For the United States to win the world cup next year a lot will have to happen. In the 80’s, no one gave the US any chance to beat Russia in the hockey finals during the winter olympics. Well, they did and it went down as one of the biggest upsets in history. So in next years world cup, do not be surprised if the United States does something that has never happened before, become the soccer champs of the world.
